ONE WORD for 2014

one word for 2014

Looking at the year ahead

Now that the holidays are over, it gives us a chance to reflect on the year behind us and look to the fresh new start a brand new calendar can give. I’m not one for resolutions per say. but I have been reading and hearing about the concept of embracing a single word philosophy for the year. A motto, a call to action, to give clarity and direction to our steps for the year.

I like to take the month of January and refrain from shopping and even going to the store as much as possible. With all the rush, spending and eating out of the last few months, striving for simplicity is a welcomed change. It helps me to gain focus. To not regret the past but see where I’d missed the mark, get perspective and decide what I’d like to accomplish in the year ahead.

Looking through a dictionary or thesaurus can help narrow down your selection of possibilities. I will include a few links to help motivate you below but through prayer and reflection, my ONE WORD for 2014 is PURSUE

Pursue God (Matthew6:33), Pursue rest, Pursue organization, Pursue creative expression Pursue joy, Pursue health.

Displaying your One Word in places around your home or at work keeps it in the forefront of your mind. When you feel confusion set in, stress, indecision. Look to your Word for focus and direction.

It’s not too late to find your One Word. It can change your year, it can change your life!

  1. I love your perspective on this Diane. I’m like you and try to keep from spending and going out so much in January…

And I love your idea of putting the word around your home to remind you to stay the course. Admittedly, I find myself forgetting all about my word after a few months. So, I’m going to find a few key spots to display it. Thanks for the idea!

Good luck and many blessings as you PURSUE! this year. Sharon

p.s. thanks so much for including me in your post. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Great post and perspective I stil need to do this – the post not the word I think I have narrowed down the word to better, better than before. Better choices, better than last yer evaluating choices as I go- is this a better choice for me than in the past?

  3. For the past few years I’ve chosen a word to start out the New Year. I can’t say I’ve been successful at staying on track. Right at the new year, I asked my Facebook friends for their word. Got some wonderful responses. Still haven’t found my word. Waiting for divine intervention I think. lol Good post!

  4. Thank you so much for all the Great ideas and links here. This is my first year of choosing a word and it was a Suprise to me when the Lord gave me “Wonder”…I can’t wait to see what He shows me! I too have the need to Simplify and shop/purchase/consume less and find a balance after the crazy but wonderful ‘excess’ of the Holidays:) I’m going to check out some of the Blogs you suggested!

    • Thanks Molly! Wonder is a great word. I’m sure it won’t be long before He shows you a beautiful sunset,or something else from nature to give you wonder. We see those things when our life isn’t so cluttered. I’m thinking we need to be journaling about our word through the year. Would love to touch base with everyone to see how their Word as made a difference in their year.

  5. I love this post and I love the word Pursue! Last year I wanted to pursue my creative expression and I accomplished my goal! This year I found that I have the same goal and need to continue my pursuit. ๐Ÿ™‚
